Why I Love ETSY & sewpeg91

Abonfter she retired as a school teacher, my mom made doll dress for Barbie and American Girl dolls for years. She was a one person business and sold thousands of dresses at craft shows, church events and even the 4th of July parade in her sleepy little town. She was the perfect person for Etsy,  a skilled craftperson, who loved what she was doing and loved (even more) seeing the happiness her doll dresses created.

But she missed the Etsy revolution by just a few years. Sure, we built her a store,  helped get her dresses listed, and she did make some sales, but the technology gap was just too large and now her health has forced her to retire from the doll dress business.  She misses it. There is something about making something with your own hands and seeing other humans connect with you, embracing what you have created and helping to fuel your need to keep creating.

AA-Peggy-3Today I came across a craftperson named Peggy on Etsy. I do not know her, never meet her, have no idea if she uses our glitter or products. The reason I write about her, is that her story is my mom’s story. Her story is the story of thousands of craft people who have a talent, who love to create and now have a world wide platform to share their results.

AA-Peggy-2For my mom it was doll dresses, for Peggy it is Glitter covered Ornaments with European flags, and traditional dolls.  Her profile, simply written, is the profile of thousands of “table top crafters”:

“My name is Peggy and I am the creator of everything you see here. Each item is individually crafted by me right here in my AA-Peggy-1home studio in ………”

This is why as a business, Meyer Imports is proud to support Etsy crafters, as a non-crafting klutz, I am proud to see when our little company helps spur the creativity of someone, somewhere in the world. However, as a son, I see the Peggys of this world as an extension of my own mother who just wanted to share her talents with others.  And make people smile.

Thanks Peggy.

Pretty little glitters, all in a row

ETSY-1I hopped over to our Etsy shop (Doris Dotz) this morning and a couple of things jumped out at me that I wanted to share.  We are at 5,800 sales, 2,500 admirers and 3,100 5 star ratings.

I guess I am kind of bragging, a little, but more than bragging I am just very proud of the this little shop and the number of customers that Etsy has brought our way who liked what we do and stayed around a bit. Continue reading Pretty little glitters, all in a row

Fairy Dust on ETSY. wow, lots of it!

Sometimes I forget that a lot of people do not like the word Glitter (I do not know why!) and call this shiny, shiny stuff Fairy Dust (or Diamond Dust, or Sparkle Dust or ??) And as proof of this if you click here you will see thousands of items on ETSY under the Fairy Dust name.

Some of this Fairy Dust is cheap Glitter and some of it is very fine German Glass Glitter (I guess it is best to know your Fairy Dust supplier to make sure you are getting the good stuff!)

All of it seems to come in nice little vials. So, if you looking for the vials or the dust, we have your Fairy Dust needs covered!

So call it what you want, just make sure you have plenty of hand for your Halloween or Fairy Dusting needs!

Customer Spotlight: Inspiration Cottage & Pumpkin Spice Glitter

We love our customers, and not just because they are customers! We love them because they bring something new to the business and to the industry by expanding it, blending it with their own products and creating something new!

Inspiration Cottage is a great example of this. Sure they sell German Glass Glitter, but what if you needed a pink with brown nagorie feather pad?

 Or some nice Pumpkin Trim?

On even some Little Duckie Ribbon

You see, you can get the German Glitter from us, or you can find our Glitter all over Etsy being sold by partners that really bring some unique products to the market. So, you should go to Inspiration Cottage for the Glitter, but then stay for the Pumpkin Trim (or the little duckie ribbon). I mean, how could you not want the little duckie ribbon!

To Tarnish or not Not to Tarnish. The Glittery Choice is yours!

We sell alot of Silver Glass Glitter, all of it imported directly from Germany. A lot of this glitter ends up on Christmas Ornaments, but a huge amount is used for letters.

Now, if you are looking for a vintage look for your lettering or your ornament, or your centerpieces, just let the glitter tarnish!

If you want the glitter to tarnish, just wait two or three months for the Glitter to start it's natural tarnishing process just like any good silverware. Or, just coat with a good spray seal if you don't want to tarnish. The choice is yours!
